AirTran flights to Baltimore launch today

AirTran officially commenced its Grand Rapids service today when its first flight landed at Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

Dick DeVos, of the West Michigan Regional Air Alliance, was aboard the flight, which landed after noon, with executives from AirTran.

Two water cannons squirted the plane as it taxied down the airstrip.

AirTran will present nonstop service to Baltimore, Orlando, Fla., and soon Fort Myers, Fla.
