Jetstar announces latest services

Low-cost carrier Jetstar Airways has chosen Melbourne and Auckland as its initial two long-haul destinations from Singapore.

The Qantas Airways Ltd-owned Jetstar will start Melbourne-Singapore services from December 16 this year, while Auckland-Singapore flights will start from March 17, 2011, the airline said a report on Wednesday.

It will base two wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft in Singapore. They are configured to hold 303 passengers in a two-class cabin.

The first will arrive from Qantas mainline in November, with the second A330 to come from the Airbus factory in premature 2011.

Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the new flights presented travelers an array of new affordable travel options.
