Singapore Airlines to substitute engine part on A380 plane

Singapore Airlines will substitute one component of the Rolls Royce engines on all 11 of its A380 superjumbos, a spokesman for the airline said Tuesday.

The precautionary gauge had been advised by engine manufacturer Rolls Royce, he said.

Last week, Rolls Royce recognized a single faulty component in its Trent 900 engines for the oil fire on a Qantas A380 superjumbo which enforced the aircraft to a safe emergency landing in Singapore Nov 4.

There were no postponements in Singapore Airline's flight schedule due to the replacement of the engine parts, said the spokesman.

He was unable to say how long it would get to replace the parts on all 11 aircraft. 'We are still effective on a schedule,' he said.

Each Airbus A380 aircraft, the world's biggest passenger plane, has four engines.

Three airlines utilize those engines: Singapore Airlines, Australia's Qantas Airways and Germany's Lufthansa.

Qantas has grounded its fleet of six A380s as the Nov 4 incident.
